Step away from the crowds and tall buildings of Hong Kong and enjoy a visit to the Wetland park. 

The park is a conservation, education and tourism facility, located in the north of Tin Shui Wai, in Yuen Long, New Territories.  It is home to many different wildlife, including, birds, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, dragonflies and fish.

 

When you arrive at Wetland Park, you will be greeted with a sloping lawn outside the main entrance. On the lawn is a maze which is a bit hit especially with children. Children love to running through the maze, trying to find their way out.

 

Inside Wetland you will find a cafe with an indoor adventure play area, next to it.   This  is also a big hit with children. The play sessions are limited to around 15 minutes but children are welcomed to re-enter if not too busy. Remember to bring socks! If you do forget to bring socks, you can by them from the souvenir shop near to the entrance.

Outside from the adventure Play area you’ll find Pui Pui, the park’s celebrity-in-residence crocodile. This salt water crocodile was fished out of the Shan Pui River back in 2003, and has been a resident at the park since 2006 in a purpose-built enclosure.

 

 

As you walk around you will find the mangrove boardwalk.  The mangrove boardwalk is  a floating bridge that runs through a dense plantation where you can see lots of mudskippers. My children found it fascinating watching the mudskippers.

 

Other features outside include a Stream Walk, Succession Walk , butterfly garden, the boardwalk and three bird hides situated next to the fish pond, mudflat and riverside. The beautiful scenery in the park brings much enjoyment.

Inside Wetland is a whole Interactive World. There are themed exhibition galleries, which showcase the importance of wetlands conservation. You can learn more about the native flora and fauna of Hong Kong through the animals and models displayed in the Living Wetland Gallery, such as false garish, mouse deer and green turtle. There is a also a 3D theatre, and a resource center with plenty of things to do and see.

During weekends and bank holidays they have additional activities such as badge making and Origami making. This is great for children as they can take home some DIY artwork. the Wetland volunteers will share with children knowledge on animals and plants commonly found at the Park.
